When did you start powerlifting?
I
started lifting weights in high school.
How did you become interested in powerlifting?
I
found more satisfaction in being a strong lifter rather than just trying to get in good physical shape.
What is your usual weight class?
Always 67.5k (148 Lb.).
Do you prefer to lift equipped or non-equipped?
I always lifted equipped until 2006. I am definitely liking the non-equipped a little better.
Where do you normally train?
At LA Fitness in Streamwood, IL.
What are some of your best lifts?
Geared-485/314/529. Raw-350-280-485.
What are your current goals?
To climb the rankings in the Raw Federation and set more records.
What is your proudest moment in powerlifting?
When I pulled a 529 dead at age 43 (I don’t wear any gear in the deadlift).
Describe your training program:
It varies.
Do you lift alone, with training partners, or a team?
I
lift sometimes alone and sometimes with others. Shaun Trimarco has mentioned to me about putting together a Raw power team.
Do you take any supplements? If so, which?
None.
Any advice for beginners?
Stay away from steroids, etc. I never did any and I am proud of what I have accomplished in powerlifting.
What is your favorite lift?
The deadlift. Though I have struggled with my top weights in recent years.
What is your least favorite lift?
Don’t have a least favorite. Though my bench is probably my weakest.
What are some important dos and don’ts?
Keep up the training and eat often. Lots of red meat/veggies/fruit/chocolate (well maybe not too much chocolate). Don’t let other people talk you into supplements you know aren’t good for you.
How do you mentally prepare for a contest?
I
watch videos of myself/others from previous meets to get inspired and catch mistakes. Don’t let bad workouts get you down. Sometimes you need the meet to pull the trigger.
What is your favorite “Cheat” food?
Hands-down: CHOCOLATE.
Any favorite quotes or sayings?
Sweet.
What other hobbies do you enjoy outside of powerlifting?
I
love to fish, go out to dinner with my wife, work on my house.
