When did you start powerlifting?
Started it same time that I started college in 2003
How did you become interested in powerlifting?
My brother was a football player and recommend powerlifting in order to bulk up quickly
What is your usual weight class?
I usually lift in the 220 ibs but my goal is to get down to the 198 before the year is over
Do you prefer to lift equipped or non-equipped?
I prefer to lift non-equipped
Where do you normally train?
I train at Patten gym on the northwestern campus
What are some of your best lifts?
My best lift is the deadlift
What are your current goals?
My current goal is to total 1400 in the 198 unequipped
Do you lift alone, with training partners, or a team?
I am part of the Northwestern University powerlifting team
Do you take any supplements? If so, which?
I supplement with cytosport’s Musclemilk and multivitamins
Any advice for beginners?
One lesson that I had to learn the hard way is picking a reasonable opener during a competition. I would advice beginners to be very careful when it comes to choosing an opener, better to start too low than too high.
What other hobbies do you enjoy outside of powerlifting?
Outside of powerlifting, I am also into jujutsu (it’s the non-competitive form of judo.
